Part-time QS for Building Maintenance and Minor Civils – Belper, Derbyshire

An enthusiastic person to join a small, friendly team undertaking reactive and planned building maintenance and minor civils work, primarily within the utilities sector.  The work is carried out predominantly in the East and West Midlands.

This role is advertised on a part-time basis, 16-24 hours per week.  Exact times and hours are negotiable.  We would consider someone wanting to work school hours over 4-5 days or 2-3 days per week.

The Role

Key responsibilities would be:

  • Pricing and pre-measurement for forthcoming works
  • Ongoing measurements and pricing of variations
  • Measurement and valuation of final accounts for high volumes of completed work using a bespoke schedule of rates
  • Answering queries in relation to measured term contracts
  • Communication with Contracts Managers who will oversee the running of ongoing projects
  • Developing relationships with new and existing customers, making sure that all customers receive an excellent service
  • Involvement in managing project costs alongside Contracts Managers to deliver planned financial result on completion


This role would suit someone who already has experience in a QS role.  It may appeal to someone looking to work on a flexible basis.  This is the only QS role within the branch which will mean the successful candidate needs to be able to work reasonably autonomously and independently.

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree level Quantity Surveying qualification
  • Experience within a QS role, preferably from a contracting environment
  • A passion for delivering the highest quality customer service
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good spatial and numerical ability
  • Competence in using Microsoft Office
  • Ability to show initiative and to work independently
  • Ability to learn about all aspects of the business
  • Full driving licence

Desirable Criteria:

  • RICS membership
  • Experience in dealing with minor civils work

The exact package will be dependent on skills, experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.  The package will involve a competitive basic salary and contributory pension scheme.  A company vehicle will be provided for site visits.
