Coatings Work to Nature Bridge in Leicester

Bagnalls has recently completed the preparation and redecoration of the former Great Western Bridge for Danaher & Walsh on behalf of Leicester City Council.

A fully encapsulated scaffold was erected to both sides of the parapet to enable the safe preparation and coating of all surfaces whilst ensuring no debris entered the canal below. All existing coatings were removed by grit blasting by our specially trained operatives. The work was completed during one of the worst winters on record, so dew point and other temperature tests were regularly taken prior to application of all paint coatings. All test readings were recorded within the site quality contract plan and documents were submitted to Danaher & Walsh for approval.

Leicester City Council requested a Highways specification to be applied to the bridge therefore Bagnalls approached Protega coatings, a leading specialist in the field of industrial coatings were applied to all surfaces of the bridge as per manufacturer’s instructions.

Although the bridge is no longer in commission, Leicester City Council have landscaped what was the main walkway in order to attract wildlife to the area, hence, its more colloquial name – the Nature Bridge.
