Bath Spa University College
Main House Stairwell at Bath Spa
Bagnalls proved once more that they have the highly decorative skills required for the restoration of listed and period properties. We received recognition from the Painting & Decorating Association (PDA) for the high standards and complex nature of works undertaken at Bath Spa University College, with a Highly Commended Award. The project involved the refurbishment and restoration of the staircase to its original colour scheme.
The major restriction placed on the operation was that the staircase had to remain open at all times to allow access to staff and provide a fire escape in an emergency. To maintain this requirement a fixed birdcage scaffold was erected for the works to dome level and small mobile access towers with link platforms were used from ground to first floor levels.
The colour and finish required were specially designed to reflect a colour scheme in keeping with the period of the building. The metal balustrade required a specific dark grey finish, which after many trials with various shades was achieved by the careful blending of colours.
The overall success of this project was achieved through the skills of our highly trained workforce and our flexible approach to working with our customers to meet their exacting needs.
