Painting Partnership for University Painting

Bagnalls is proud to work for many of the UK's leading universities including the prestigious Durham University. The University was founded in 1832, making it the third oldest in England and is located in the city of Durham and the nearby town of Stockton-on-Tees.

Bagnalls became a painting partner to the University in 2007 and has painted many of the University's facilities including the Student's Union, 32 Old Elvet, the College of St Hild & St Bede and Caedmon Hall.

Internal and external painting works at the student's union were undertaken to a very tight timescale. Works were initially planned around Christmas functions with the remaining works being undertaken during the Christmas vacation. Bagnalls dedicated a team of 10 painters to the project to ensure the deadline was met. An innovative painting scheme was put together by Crown Paints to bring colour and a vibrant atmosphere to the union building.

Undertaking the externals at Caedmon Hall required a much smaller team of painters who could work effectively during term time with minimal disruption to lecturers, University staff and students. Safety was of paramount importance and clear signage imperative to reduce risks to the general public.

Similar requirements were required at 32 Old Elvet, a historic property used for tutorials. A small team of painters painted the externals of this beautiful Georgian building during term time, using PPG Johnstone's self cleaning masonry paint, an innovative product which has been formulated to offer a low maintenance solution and is guaranteed to keep the exterior looking cleaner for longer and resist the dulling effects of pollution and weathering over time.

The advanced nanotechnology in PPG Johnstone's self cleaning masonry paint was also used at Warwickshire College as it provided a cost-effective alternative to the repeated cleaning and painting of buildings. Significantly reducing maintenance requirements, the paint's self-cleaning properties ensure that after one application, the building exterior retains its aesthetic appeal for longer without the need to be repainted or refreshed.
