Managing Hospital Painting Works
Alfred Bagnall and Sons (North East) Ltd has completed several projects at The James Cook University Hospital, over the years, including work under a Measured Term Contract and over £1 million of painting works when the New Build PFI hospital was developed.
During the new build process, Bagnalls dedicated a Contracts Manager and site projects manager to the scheme supported by a team of directly employed local painters. To this day, the same painters continue to carry out daily maintenance painting works to the hospital and have often been referred to by the hospital management as "an extension of our own work force".
As a finishing trade, Bagnalls often has to manage works around a high number of other trades, so scheduling of works and close liaison with other contractors and the client are essential. We manage this through regular communication and progress meetings as well as keeping track of all areas of the projects awarded.
Most painting works are carried out during normal working hours, which means that we are undertaking painting works when the hospital is at its busiest. Our experience and safe systems of work ensure that we cause minimal disruption to staff, patients and the general public. Our operatives work in small teams and clearly cordon off areas of work, display "Wet Paint" signs and paint the designated areas with the least inconvenience to the hospital's day to day operations.
