Industrial Painting Works to Link Bridge at Meadowhall Shopping Centre

Bagnalls recently undertook the external painting of the link bridge at Meadowhall Shopping Centre, Sheffield. The bridge is used by commuters and shoppers going to and from the local railway station.

The works were undertaken around the clock, with two separate teams working 12 hour shifts. The bridge remained open during the entire project so safety was paramount. Prior to any painting works commencing, Bagnalls had to get permissions from the Environment Agency to work over the River Don and the Highways Agency to implement road closures.

Access to the structure, which spans over a wide section of the River Don, was hampered due to weight restrictions rendering traditional tube and board scaffolding and suspended platforms unsuitable. Specialist mobile elevated work platforms were therefore used, with extended boom reach, which ensured a safe working environment for operatives and maximum protection from paint entering the watercourse below.

In addition, Bagnalls had to employ road traffic management which meant lane closures had to be put in place on the busy commuter route A6109, in order to access areas of the bridge.

Bagnalls was also the main painting contractor on site when Meadowhall shopping centre was originally built in the 1980s.
