Repainting works to Metro Stations in North East

Newcastle is the centre of the metropolitan county of Tyne-and-Wear. The city itself has only some 300,000 inhabitants but the area served by the Tyne-and-Wear Metro has approximately 1 million residents.

The Tyne-and-Wear Metro system was opened in 1980 and has a network of nearly 78km. Constructed to cover trunk journeys across the region. It is operated by DB Regio on behalf of Nexus.

Bagnalls was awarded the contract from DB Regio for the painting of 40 stations in March 2010. The contract started on the 1st April and in order to comply with the terms of the contract it was completed on the 9th July 2010.

Focussing on safety, quality, environment, cost and communication our experienced personnel provided the project management skills, programme coordination and delivery to complete the painting works on time and to budget. Our project supervisors coordinated the day-to-day activities of all sites, communicating with DB Regio personnel to ensure consistency of quality, safety and programme.

Our dedicated site teams comprising of PTS and ICATS trained foremen and painters delivered the works in line with the daily schedule which was constantly monitored in line with the overall programme of works. Quality control was managed as the works progressed so that the operatives ensured consistency of standard and continuous improvement.

Redecoration works were carried out in accordance with the supplied specification and to the Metro colour scheme. The works were undertaken to minimise disruption to the general public using the metro by planning works on days without interfering with public access to the platforms and on some stations where necessary on nights.
