External decorations at Ormesby Hall

Bagnalls was awarded the project to re-paint this attractive rural mansion on the edge of Middlesbrough, following the successful completion of painting works for The National Trust's Souter Lighthouse.

Ormesby Hall is one of the North East's most popular tourist attractions and is host to various events such as civil weddings, receptions and open-air concerts. Therefore the painting works had to be undertaken with a great deal of care for visitors and guests.

In the past, the painting of Ormesby Hall had been split into two phases. However, Bagnalls was commissioned to undertake the entire project in one go in order to achieve a uniform finish to the Hall and out buildings.

The work consisted of the external decoration to the soffits, windows, doors and rain water goods which were all to be finished in lead paint. The museum remained open to the public during the conservation works, including quite a number of school visits therefore health and safety was paramount on site.

Due to the historic nature of the building, the use of a fixed scaffold was out of the question, which meant work had to be carried out using MEWPs (Mobile Elevated Working Platforms).

The project was completed in the timescale requested with a highly decorative finish using traditional lead paints to the standards expected by The National Trust.

The painting works were Highly Commended in the Painting & Decorating Association (PDA) Premier Trophy Awards 2008. The PDA is the premier trade and employers' association for painting & decorating in the United Kingdom of which Bagnalls has been a long standing and active member.
