Severn Trent Water
Sewage Pump Station (SPS) Refurbishment Programme
For Severn Trent Water (STW), maintenance of its vast number of buildings over a widespread geographical operational area is a challenge.
Severn Trent Water employed Bagnalls Building Maintenance to embark upon refurbishing and renovating SPS buildings that have suffered misuse, vandalism and general decay. These buildings are rarely occupied but very widespread. Their main function is to move raw sewage to the nearest treatment works.
The aim of this refurbishment work was to make the pumping stations ‘maintenance free’ for a substantial amount of time and avoid the operational costs that come with reactive maintenance. Bagnalls set about its assignment working to a specification and customer led budget.
To achieve the ‘maintenance free’ objective the pumping stations had to be overhauled with specifications such as new roof work including guaranteed roofing systems, replacement of fascias, soffits and rainwater goods with uPVC, the installation of composite doors and frames to replace rotten timber. The removal of windows took place to avoid vandalism, drainage & ground improvements completed to avoid slips, trips and falls and fence renewals to avoid theft and vandalism. The quality of the work is checked on an ongoing basis by the Bagnalls dedicated management team as well as the customer and after the work by the contract administrator.
4 years on and this phase of works is nearing completion for hundreds of pumping stations. The work was undertaken to stringent budgets, performance targets and audits and as a result, Bagnalls Building Maintenance continues to provide this service for Severn Trent Water today.
