Preserving our Country's Heritage in a Sustainable Way

Bagnalls has been the recipient of many awards from the PDA over the years for work on heritage properties including Souter Lighthouse for the National Trust, the Assembly Rooms in Bath and a Grade 2 listed cricket pavilion for Cadbury Schweppes.

The maintenance painting of historic properties is an essential element of their long term conservation, so that they can continue to be enjoyed by future generations. Modern materials and the latest manufacturing techniques mean that many of the paint products used to preserve buildings have low VOC (volatile organic compounds) content and a minimal impact on the environment.

Bagnalls prepares and applies paints requested to match many of the colours used in the original historic palette of the building. Care and attention is taken throughout the process to ensure that the overall finish is as natural as possible and in keeping with the unique ambience of the property.

Bagnalls can also accommodate commercial customers who require the application of lead based paint products. These are only used where specialist conservation is required, normally where the use of a modern alternative could have a detrimental impact on the condition or character of a property. Bagnalls ensures all the required licenses are in place to use the specialist paints and monitors the health and safety of its personnel applying the coatings. Preparation means no dry work can be involved and therefore preparation by sanding is a wet process, with the requisite waste being disposed of via specialist licensed waste contractors.

Bagnalls aims to establish long term partnerships with the owners and managers of historic properties. We offer a service of ongoing care and maintenance to ensure that minor areas of maintenance are identified as soon as possible and remedial work undertaken to limit any long term irreparable damage.

Maintenance works can be undertaken whilst the facilities remain open to the public or planned to be undertaken during the closed season or out of hours, whichever is preferred.
