As an Investor in People and an Equal Opportunities Employer it is very important for Bagnalls to invest in the skill development of our colleagues, encourage teamwork and ensure job satisfaction.
David joined Bagnalls as an apprentice painter and demonstrated very early on in his career that he had a desire to progress. He regularly received praise from his college tutors and fellow painters during his formative apprenticeship years. His achievements were formally recognised when he was awarded The Building Employers Confederation York Association Painting and Decorating Trophy for Excellence in the final year of the Painting Craft examinations.
Since completing his apprenticeship and achieving NVQ Level 3 in painting, David has now moved onto a new role as a Management Trainee. "I am being constantly challenged in my new role but my apprenticeship has given me an excellent foundation in the practical application of paint and the knowledge needed to learn about surveying and contracts management. Every day is different."
To develop David's skills further and support his progress within the company, he is now studying towards a HND in Quantity Surveying at University.
"I have been working at Bagnalls for just over 3 years in a business development role. My job is to seek out business opportunities by contacting a variety of organisations that may have a need for our services.
As a national painting contractor, we can usually meet the needs of most maintenance and new build painting projects. Since each customer has different requirements, I have to take care to understand their particular requirements and then make arrangements for one of my colleagues to visit the customer to survey the project and submit a competitive proposal.
Teamwork is central to the approach we take at Bagnalls and we all have our role to play in maintaining the company's success. The role is challenging but also very rewarding. I enjoy working at Bagnalls and share a passion for delivering an excellent service to our customers."
"I have been on my "journey" working at Bagnalls for 22 years, starting out as a Trainee Concrete Repairer on site and then progressing through to site management and now an Estimator/ Surveyor.
The Company supported me in my decision to return to part time education so I could achieve my Diploma in Building Management with the Chartered Institute of Building. Bagnalls continuous encouragement and support throughout my career has boosted my confidence and enabled me to work my way up from a Management Trainee to now being part of a team that carries out the estimating of schemes at initial tender stage. On award of the contract, I manage all aspects of the project including the delivery, finance and customer interface on a day-to day basis.
