Health and Safety

Bagnalls has years of experience in working in both occupied and non-occupied premises. All employees are aware of their duties under the Health & Safety at Work Act (HASWA), 1974, to not only protect themselves and their colleagues but also the safety of others that may be affected by their actions.

Our safe systems of work ensure all risks are assessed, reduced and where possible eliminated. Site housekeeping and security are maintained and customer care is constantly monitored.

We control the health and safety risks arising from our work activities by:

  • Closely supervising site progress
  • Regular unannounced site visits by independent safety consultants (on sites where this is permitted)
  • Consulting with our employees on matters affecting health and safety
  • Ensuring all employees are competent to do what is asked of them and to give them adequate training
  • Providing information, instruction and supervision for employees
  • Maintaining safe and healthy working conditions
  • Providing and maintaining safe equipment
  • Ensuring the safe handling and use of substances
  • Preventing accidents and cases of work related ill health
  • Continually reviewing our systems of work and
  • Complying with the current applicable legislation.

Bagnalls commitment to protecting the health and well-being of its employees and others has resulted in Gold RoSPA awards being achieved in 2011 & 2010 and a Silver RoSPA award in 2009. These awards recognise the ongoing work we undertake to improve our performance beyond the minimum legal requirements for good health and safety management. In addition, we have achieved Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Platinum status, which means over 90% of our site based employees are registered CSCS cardholders. Our safe systems of work have been recognised through external audit resulting in our CHAS, Constructionline, Safecontractor, Link Up Qualified via Audit, UVDB Verify and Exor accreditations.
