Major Redecoration at Brontë Parsonage Museum

Bagnalls | 11 February

Bagnalls were proud to have been chosen as the decorating contractor to undertake the major decorating works to this historic property. Once home to the world’s most famous literary family, the Brontës, the parsonage is now one of the UK’s top tourist attractions. The visual transformation was led by historic interior design consultant Allyson McDermott who researched how the house would have looked in the 1830s and 1840s during the main period of the Brontë family’s occupation as well as features introduced by Charlotte Brontë when she gave the parsonage a facelift in the early 1850s. Garry Coble, local Bagnalls’ Branch Director added “This project was a unique opportunity for Bagnalls to demonstrate its decorating capability. Our team of painters applied distemper to the walls and bespoke wallpapers to recreate Allyson’s vision.”

Ann Dinsdale, Collections Manager, Brontë Parsonage Museum, commented “We are so pleased with the performance of the Bagnalls team, they have worked diligently to transform the rooms of the house in keeping with Allyson McDermott’s image. This is one of the most exciting projects to take place at the Parsonage in many years and may well surprise a number of our visitors.”
