Richard Britten, East Midlands Branch Director, finished a gruelling Triathalon to raise money for children’s charity Action Medical Research, dedicated to improving the health of babies and children.
The eleventh year of this exciting triathlon-style adventure challenge saw Richard and his two team mates successfully complete all three events in 10 hours 47mins. To “race the sun”, teams start at sunrise and hopefully finish before sunset. Ninety teams entered in total and all members had to complete each part of the course, which consisted of: cycling for approximately 25 miles (40km) from Penrith to Thirlmere, hiking to the summit of England’s second highest mountain, Helvellyn at 3,116ft (950m), canoeing a 3km course on Lake Thirlmere and then cycling a further 25 miles (40km) back up to Penrith via Keswick. The Donny Boys achieved a commendable 38th place out of 90 on their first attempt, with 15 teams unable to complete the event.
Many of Richard’s colleagues, as well as Bagnalls as part of our Community Paintbrush scheme, kindly sponsored Richard’s praiseworthy efforts. The team raised over £2500 and have already talked about repeating the event next year!!
