Congratulations to Kris Pilmer, of Bagnalls, on winning the Isaac Berriman Cup. The Isaac Berriman Cup was donated to the Durham Technical College (now New College, Durham) many years ago as an award to a craft apprentice who demonstrated excellent skill development in his or her chosen craft.
Isaac Berriman was a building contractor operating in the North East between the late 19th century and late 20th century. The company built high quality houses and other buildings including schools, university halls of residence, post offices, and shopping developments. It employed some excellent craftsmen and was a strong supporter of craft apprenticeships.
The award of the cup is accompanied by a cheque from The Isaac and Alan Berriman Trust which makes donations for charitable and educational purposes. The Trust was established in 1975, and is in honour of Isaac Berriman, the founder of the business, and his son, Alan Berriman, who also played a leading role in the construction industry in the North East. studying there.
This year New College Durham chose Kris Pilmer of Bagnalls as the cup winner and Kris was presented with the cup by Ian Gaskill, Head of the School of Technology.
