Bagnalls Building Maintenance was commissioned to Design and Construct a new HV Sub-Station on Yorkshire Water’s East Hull Sewage Pumping Station. Works included a new combined Yorkshire Water / Northern Power Grid sub-station building, two HV transformer enclosure compounds, associated trenching, ducting and cabling, testing and commissioning. The project was overseen by Arup.
We employed a consultant to carry out the design and specification of the building to meet Yorkshire Water’s and Northern Power Grid’s requirements. We also employed a specialist to carry out ground investigation work and a ground penetrating radar survey.
During the course of the works we were presented with numerous challenges. There were many underground cables in the vicinity of the works and it was not clear from the information supplied by the power company which were live / redundant. These had to be carefully exposed by hand and then the power company attended site to identify and spike the redundant services. We also discovered a drain running under the construction area that had to have a cover slab designed and built to bridge over it.
Throughout the project we worked very closely with Yorkshire Water’s / Arup’s contractor who were supplying and installing the switchgear and transformers along with Northern Power Grid who were installing their own switchgear. This ensured that the project was delivered smoothly.
