Cannon Fields DVA (Derwent Valley Aqueduct)

Bagnalls | 14 December

As a long-term contractor to Severn Trent Water we are involved in a wide range of building maintenance projects, including the recent refurbishment of Cannon Fields DVA (Derwent Valley Aqueduct).

The building was last refurbished by Bagnalls, five years ago, when a large refurbishment programme of over 50 valve buildings was delivered.  Many of the buildings date back to the late 1900s, so the initial programme of works focussed on making the buildings fit for purpose and ensuring that they remained structurally sound for the future.

Now there is a need to replace roofs, repaint and undertake other repairs.  The buildings are situated in all different kinds of environments and access is sometimes challenging.  However, with our experience and knowledge, we ensure that the methodology used considers the impact on landowners, nearby residents, and the ecology.

On the Cannon Fields DVA, we:

  • Removed the surrounding vegetation from the building and formed one metre wide granite chipping margins to reduce future maintenance requirements.
  • Repointed areas with lime mortar to match existing.
  • Reinstated the steps providing non-slip floor paint to the steps and fixing high-viz edging strips.
  • Prepared the surface of and applied protective coatings to the roof.
  • Prepared and redecorated double doors to the client’s specification to blend into the surrounding country side.
  • Ensured safe access for future visits by Severn Trent Water personnel.
