Doncaster is home to one of only three Mansion Houses in England, with the other two in York and London. Following major refurbishment works on the Mansion House in 2016, further works were commissioned to the adjacent buildings, namely the Tourist Information Centre and the Registry office. A great deal of external painting was undertaken to a Dulux Weathershield specification as well as internal redecoration to transform several rooms including , the Great Kitchen, the Priory Suite and the courtyard into a new Registry Office facility (previously located out of the town centre). The new Registry office now has a central location in Priory Place, accessible to all.
Can you spot something unusual? The windows on the side elevation, above the Priory Place sign, have been bricked up, as was the custom in times gone by. However, the Council wanted the building to look like it did when it was originally built, so our craftsmen painter blackened out the window areas and then painted individual window panes by free hand.
