Bagnalls talented young painter, Lewis Boyle, has been named as one of only three painters and decorators to represent the UK as part of the WorldSkills UK Talent Programme, known as Squad UK.
WorldSkills UK, the education and skills charity, named the 137 apprentices and students in total, who will join its talent programme for EuroSkills Graz 2020 and hopefully make the team to represent Great Britain at the ‘skills olympics’ which will next be held in Shanghai, China in 2021.
Lewis was the overall winner of the Painting and Decorating Association’s (PDA) Apprentice of the Year competition in July last year and won Silver at the 2019 Apprentice Decorator of the Year (ADY) competition, sponsored by Crown Trade Paints. The ADY competition, held at the Birmingham NEC, during the SkillBuild event, organised by CITB as part of WorldSkills UK LIVE was the main platform for talented young people to demonstrate their skills and earn their place on Squad UK.
Dr Neil Bentley-Gockmann OBE, Chief Executive, WorldSkills UK said: “It is fantastic to see such a strong squad of young people all of whom are aiming to represent the UK on the world stage in Shanghai.
“They will be flying the flag for the UK, demonstrating to the rest of the world that we are developing the high quality skills needed to help us to trade internationally and attract inward investment across all of the UK to creating and maintain jobs. Now more than ever, we need to invest in excellence in training for the next generation if we are to remain competitive globally and help create a thriving economy.”
Lewis will join the other gifted apprentices and students on the WorldSkills UK Talent Programme for 18 months of training, which will be organised around his employment commitments. Bagnalls will support Lewis throughout his journey and hope he achieves his ultimate dream and secures a place in the team that will represent the UK at WorldSkills Shanghai 2021.
Congratuations to all who have been chosen – Go Squad UK!
