Bagnalls is a proud member of The 5% Club, an industry-led campaign that aims to support the careers of young people across the country. The club was initially launched in 2013 and has received widespread support from a wide range of companies, intent on investing in the future talent of the UK.
Our commitment to The 5% Club means that we have achieved a Gold Award for our positive approach to the recruitment of apprentices, sponsored students and graduates on formal programmes. A minimum of 5% of our total workforce must meet The 5% Club requirements and we are already exceeding this figure with more than 9.6% of our workforce meeting the stated criteria.
Following an external “Employer Audit” by The 5% Club, we are pleased to announce that Bagnalls has met the criteria to be awarded a Gold Award for 2021/22. The Gold award clearly demonstrates our proven commitment to investing in our workforce through a broad range of “earn & learn” programmes.

Bagnalls has been a long-standing and active member of the PDA. Generations of senior managers in the company have contributed to committees and working parties in the PDA, dealing with industry drivers including, apprenticeships, training, safety and environment.
The high level of service offered to our customers has been consistently recognised in the annual trophy and apprentice awards of the PDA.

We employ people with ICORR painting inspection training and ICATS – ‘Industrial Coating Applicator Training Scheme’. These highly trained industrial painters have been certified against the high standards required by organisations such as the Highways Agency, National Grid and Network Rail.

Our Group’s Painting Academy was established in 2004 and has been vital in supplementing the site and college based training given to our apprentices. Our ongoing commitment to apprenticeships has resulted in a large number of our directly employed operatives being apprentice trained and qualified.

Bagnalls were delighted when Troy Sanderson, was the winning candidate of the “FBU Apprentice of the Year awards”, in 2015, surpassed only by Adam Knowles, becoming the ”FBU Apprentice of the Year, 2018”. Testament to the company’s commitment to people, especially apprentices. Bagnalls were also recognised in 2016 when we were crowned “Yorkshire Regional Family Business of the Year, 2016” and also “FBU UK Supreme Champions, 2016”.
