Bagnalls Gives Goodwood Racecourse a Refresh

Goodwood Racecourse holds a reputation as one of the most beautiful racecourses in the world. It has played host to horse racing since 1802 when the sport was first introduced. The course now hosts 19 unique race days annually and offers visitors a varied choice of bars, dining options and a considered hospitality experience.
Bagnalls is proud to have won a recent commission by competitive tender to complete external redecorations to three of the main stands, along with the external bar areas. Our team repainted all the structural steelwork, handrails and railings.
We fully prepared and primed all areas and then applied two coats of Dulux white Metalshield using brushes and rollers.
We completed the project over a four-month period during the course’s annual maintenance period closure. We began work in January and finished in April. Our team consisted of a minimum of two skilled painters, increasing to eight at peak times.
We used cherry pickers and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPS) in order to access high-level areas. These machines were only used by trained staff who have taken part in work at height (WAH) training and hold International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) qualifications.
The weather presented a challenge during this project, largely due to the time of year the work took place. However, we paid close attention to the weather conditions to ensure the safety of our team and the quality of our final finish.
Our on-site supervisor continually monitored the forecast and weather conditions during the day, including temperature and moisture. This ensured that our team were protected from the elements and that we applied the paint in full compliance with regulations, allowing for an effective cure and a long-lasting finish.
Our on-site supervisor liaised regularly with other trades to ensure we coordinated our programme appropriately, minimising inconvenience to the other works taking place.
We received some lovely feedback from the racecourse staff: “This was an excellent job and the painters felt like part of the family.” We’re so thrilled to hear that they’re happy with our performance and the overall look of Goodwood.
