Reset Certification Scheme
The Reset Certification Scheme Logo

Bagnalls was the first national painting contractor to fully adopt the Reset Certification Scheme across its business. We know that our customers rely on us to provide competent site teams and the Reset scheme ensures that customers can verify each individual and view original certificates any time of the day or night. Reset allows us to meet the requirements of the CDM Regulations and other Health & Safety legislation by demonstrating the competence, skills and experience of our operative to deliver works safely.

The 5% Club

Bagnalls is a proud member of The 5% Club, an industry-led campaign that aims to support the careers of young people across the country. The club was initially launched in 2013 and has received widespread support from a wide range of companies, intent on investing in the future talent of the UK.

Our commitment to The 5% Club means a minimum of 5% of our total workforce must meet The 5% Club requirements of apprentices, sponsored students and graduates on formal programmes. Bagnalls exceeded this figure from the start and received Gold status. However, we are now proud to say we are one of only a few companies who have been awarded Platinum membership as more than 10% of our workforce are now in “earning and learning” positions with the company.

Painting & Decorating Association (PDA)

Bagnalls is a long-standing and active member of the Painting & Decorating Association(PDA). Generations of senior managers in the company have contributed to committees and working parties in the PDA, dealing with industry drivers including, apprenticeships, training, safety and environment. The high level of service offered to our customers has been consistently recognised in the annual trophy and apprentice awards of the PDA. We are still very proud of being the inaugural winners in 2005 of the PDA “Special Award for Excellence” for our dedication to training, innovation and customer focus. We were again named “Supreme Winners” at the 2023 annual trophy awards for the complex redecoration project undertaken at Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

Bagnalls is also committed to the PDA Paint Green initiative launched in 2023 to drive environmental issues, social value and good governance in our industry.

RoSPA

Bagnalls is a member of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. Bagnalls uses its membership to further pursue safe working practices in the workplace. Bagnalls has now been awarded 15 successive Gold RoSPA awards, for our ongoing commitment to occupational health and safety.

Institute of Corrosion (ICORR)

Bagnalls is a member of the Institute of Corrosion to ensure we remain abreast of all the key issues affecting corrosion management practice and the advancement of cost effective corrosion control measures.

We employ people with ICORR painting inspection training and ICATS – ‘Industrial Coating Applicator Training Scheme’. These highly trained industrial painters have been certified against the high standards required by organisations such as the Highways Agency, National Grid and Network Rail.

National Apprenticeship Scheme

Bagnalls is a registered member of the highly acclaimed National Apprenticeship scheme and as such we are proud to be able to display the Apprenticeship Employer’s badge. Our ongoing commitment to apprenticeships resulted in Bagnalls being named in the Top 100 Employers of apprentices, in 2022 and being Highly Commended in the Yorkshire & Humberside region, National Apprentice Awards in 2023.

Our Group’s Training Academy was established in 2004 and continues to play a vital part in supplementing the site and college-based training given to our apprentices across the UK.

Family Business United (FBU)

Bagnalls is proud to be a fifth generation, family run business. The company’s values align very closely with those of Family Business United and so we became members in 2014, to support the contribution family businesses make to the UK economy. FBU celebrate the investment that companies make in people development, succession planning and delivering high levels of customer service.

Bagnalls were delighted when we were crowned not only “Yorkshire Regional Family Business of the Year, 2016” but also “FBU UK Supreme Champions, 2016”. FBU also undertook a survey of family businesses in 2023 and Bagnalls were named the top FBU Family Business Apprentice Employer in the UK!

Bagnalls is a proud member of Women into Construction, an independent, not-for-profit organisation that promotes gender equality in construction. We’re passionate about improving female representation and experiences in male-dominated sectors and committed to creating an inclusive environment for women at Bagnalls. We’ll work with Women into Construction to deliver diversity and inclusion training, as well as offering remote mentoring and practical work placements for women looking to get into the sector.

Bagnalls is an accredited Living Wage Employer, certified by the Living Wage Foundation. We commit to paying our staff the real living wage. We know our people deserve a wage that meets everyday needs and we fairly compensate them for their hard work. Bagnalls sits alongside half of the FTSE 100 and big household names, such as Nestlé, Oxfam and IKEA, as an accredited Living Wage Employer.

Bagnalls was one of the first painting contractors in the UK to become an award-winning Dulux Connect partner. Bagnalls and Dulux Trade work together with customers to achieve partnership objectives on every project.

Through close collaboration, we deliver the specific requirements of our shared customers. We deliver bespoke painting packages which encompass site surveys, life cycle maintenance specifications, colour schemes tailored to suit individual environments, deliver sample properties for benchmarking quality and work together to monitor and deliver the mutually agreed project targets.

Our painters have regularly succeeded in being short listed for Dulux’s Most Trusted Contractor Painter, acknowledgement of our dual commitment to training and developing quality craftsmen.

Health and Safety ISO 45001

Our Occupational health and safety management systems are externally audited by BSI to achieve ISO 45001:2018. Bagnalls are committed to providing high levels of safety across all its sites. Our policies and procedures ensure that we minimise risk to employees, demonstrate diligence through robust safe systems of work, remain legally compliant and continuously improve our occupational health and safety management systems.

Quality ISO 9001

Our quality management systems are well established throughout our service delivery and are regularly audited by BSI against ISO 9001:2015. Our systematic yet versatile approach to our customers’ requirements delivers time and cost savings as well as reduced waste and high customer satisfaction levels. We assure quality throughout the delivery of our works on each and every project.

Environmental ISO 14001

Our Environmental Management System conforms to ISO 14001:2015 and is externally audited by BSI. We are continuously developing our environmental management systems in order to deliver the long term aims of sustainability requested by our customers. Our Painting a Greener Future initiatives drive our business to reduce, reuse and recycle, where possible. And, we have achieved the Masternaut CO2e Gold standard for significantly reducing CO2 emissions, by using patented fuel monitoring technology.

EcoVadis Gold

Our EcoVadis Gold certificate places us in the top 5% of companies who have completed the assessment in terms of sustainability and ethical management. This accredits our practices as showing consideration for the environment, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. Ecovadis commented “The company demonstrates an advanced sustainability management system that covers all four themes.”

Supply Chain Sustainability School (Gold)

Our gold rating in the Supply Chain Sustainability School evidences our engagement in using the school’s resources to integrate more sustainable and responsible practices in our work. It also attests to our active participation in sharing knowledge and experience with other members, helping promote environmentally friendly practices in our industry and beyond.

Customers can be assured that we are committed to conserving resources and protecting the environment for future generations as well as continually reviewing and improving upon our processes to increase our sustainability.

NHSS 19A

We are one of only a few industrial painting specialists that have successfully completed the external audit to become accredited to NHSS 19A – the National Highways Sector Scheme for Quality Management in Highway Works, for the corrosion protection of ferrous materials by industrial coatings. Our ICATS approved specialist industrial painters are able to undertake infrastructure painting projects to the exacting standards required by NHSS 19A.

We have extensive experience of specialist surface preparation techniques and applying complex industrial coatings. This certification validates our capability to customers such as the Highways Agency and Network Rail.

SSIP – Safety Schemes in Procurement

Bagnalls has been assessed by several member schemes of Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) Forum, thereby demonstrating that it meets the core criteria for health and safety competence as outlined in the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations. Our registrations include SSIP Schemes: CHAS, Safecontractor and Constructionline.

Achilles Utility Vendor Database (UVDB)

Bagnalls has been registered with Achilles UVDB for many years and are externally audited on an annual basis to achieve Achilles UVDB Verify. Utility customers can be assured that Bagnalls has the safe systems of work and competent personnel to deliver painting, decorating and specialist coating works across all sites.

RISQS

Bagnalls is registered and audited against the RSSB (Railway Safety and Standards Board) exacting standards to achieve RISQS (the Railway Industry Supplier Qualification Scheme) accreditation. Achieving RISQS demonstrates our company’s commitment to maintaining a Competence Management System and safe systems of work that are specific to the risks faced when working in a railway environment.

We are one of a few specialist painting contractors who have achieved “Qualified by Audit” under IMR and Sentinel (Trackside). We directly employ our PTS (Personal Track Safety) painters and Project Managers so rail customers can feel assured that we have the trained and competent people to deliver works to meet Network Rail and Train Operating Companies (TOCs) standards.

Considerate Constructors

Bagnalls have been a member of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, since 2010. Bagnalls has since won both Bronze and Silver awards for its commitment to maintain a good site, working with the local community, actively engaging in environmental initiatives, working safely and investing in its workforce.

Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS)

Bagnalls was one of the first UK painting contractors to commit to the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS). We achieved Platinum status some years ago, by demonstrating that over 90% of our workforce had passed the requirements of being a CSCS cardholder. All CSCS personnel regularly update their safety awareness and technical competence.

Cyber Essentials

Bagnalls likes to reassure customers of our professionalism in all aspects of our service delivery from our on-site performance to our office administration processes. Therefore, Bagnalls has met the compliance requirements of the Cyber Essentials Scheme, which means we can:

  • Reassure our customers that they are working with a company that has secured its IT functionality against cyber attack
  • Reassure future customers that we have cyber security measures in place
  • Present a clear picture of our company’s cyber security level

And, allows us to deal with Government contracts which require Cyber Essentials certification

Constructionline

Bagnalls holds Gold Constructionline status. We were early adopters of this scheme which validates its members against PAS91 criteria and beyond. All our subsidiary companies are named under our Group Accreditation. Health, Safety and Environmental assurance is provided to customers requiring contractors like Bagnalls to achieve Gold standard as a minimum.

CHAS

CHAS ensures that we meet the requirements of Contractor Health & Safety year in, year out. We must evidence compliance on a wide range of H&S requirements from working at height, insurances and risk management. Our annual audit now encompasses additional requirements including environmental, social and governance standards.

Safecontractor

Bagnalls have achieved Safecontractor status for over 20 years. Our SSIP and PAS91 contractor accreditation ensures that we meet our customers’ requirements. The accreditation covers everything from health and safety to environmental management. Our annual accreditation ensures that we always remain compliant for a wide range of customers.
