Bagnalls Refreshes the Prestigious Hestercombe House

Hestercombe House and Gardens has a rich and diverse history, dating back to the Anglo-Saxon charter of 682. Owned and operated by the charitable Hestercombe Trust, the property is an art gallery, bookshop and visitor attraction. It is also a wonderful venue, hosting weddings, networking events and more.

The Hestercombe Trust approached Bagnalls with a project to restore and redecorate windows and timber in various areas of the property. The works included extensive repairs to large bay sash windows, fitting a replacement top sash and painting the door at the front of the main house.

Our team also restored the timber and paintwork at the entrance to the exterior of the Visitors Centre and redecorated the second-storey exterior windows and doors of the Chauffeur’s Cottage.

Our vetted subcontractor erected and dismantled fixed scaffolds on the side elevation, allowing our highly trained team to access high levels.

We repaired windows using Repaircare Dryflex 4, as well as a Dulux specification. This included the application of Weathershield Primer to bare areas, with two undercoats and one gloss topcoat to achieve a high-quality finish. We applied two coats of Metalshield paint to drainpipes and two coats of Weathershield Masonry to window surrounds.

Our team implemented considered safety measures, including diversions, barriers and signage to protect the public from our work area. We created joint signage in Hestercombe-branded colours, communicating to visitors that our work was part of the commitment to enhance Hestercombe House.
