Bagnalls Delivers Refresh for Distinguished Hilton Hotel

25 June 2026

Famed for delivering a high-quality guest experience, the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Chester needed an external refresh to ensure its outside reflected the luxury experience provided inside.

Bagnalls North West branch was pleased to be tasked with the redecoration of the sash windows and masonry.

Situated in an 18th-century manor, which is itself set within 12 acres of meticulously landscaped gardens, the hotel’s heritage character and premium image are of extreme importance. It was an essential priority that we maintained this character.

The successful execution of this project demanded precise planning and coordination, as the hotel itself remained fully operational throughout. A key consideration included scheduling work around essential events – such as weddings and conferences – integral not only to the hotel’s function but also to the positive guest experience.

Our team engaged closely with hotel management to adapt schedules, relocate access equipment daily and prioritise the completion of particular areas to avoid excessive disruption within the manor house.

All access to high-level work was safely managed with the use of a mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) and spider MEWP, each operated by IPAF-certified personnel. This ensured the highest of safety standards, while simultaneously facilitating efficient completion of the redecoration project.

In order to prepare the sash windows themselves, our team began with the wooden surrounds: sanding, filling and patch priming the surface. A single undercoat was then applied, followed by the final gloss finishing coat.

All masonry surfaces were similarly prepped, with stain blocking also carried out where required. Two coats of smooth masonry paint were applied to achieve a durable, visually appealing finish.

The whole project was executed efficiently within a two-week timeframe, maintaining consistently high painting and decorating standards throughout.

The revitalised appearance of the windows and masonry works to enhance the hotel’s overall façade, maintaining the heritage charm and aesthetic of the building, while also chiming with the outstanding guest environment found inside.

Our customer was exceedingly pleased with the finished look, emphasising satisfaction with both the quality achieved and the considerate management of the work schedule. The hotel management team commented: “Everything went swimmingly well; the whole building looks so much better. We are super pleased and more than happy with the standard of work.” If you have a heritage building within the hospitality or leisure sector that deserves the same outstanding treatment, get in touch with our expert team today.
