People Development

From an active apprenticeships support programme to continuous professional development (CPD) management training, we take the improvement of our people very seriously. We recruit people of suitable calibre, education and potential to fill the roles we have, with a view to further developing their potential and experience to progressively fill more senior roles.

We are committed to encouraging all our people to develop and use their talents to meet their personal aspirations. That is why over 75% of our supervisors and contracts managers have been promoted into their current role as a result of CPD.

We also have a unique Management Trainee scheme which is targeted at school leavers, apprentices, graduates and site-based operatives. The 36-month modular programme covers a wide spectrum of topics including project management, customer care and cost control. Once the programme has been successfully finished you will have a firm grounding in the business requirements and the opportunity of developing a successful career with the company.

Training Academy

Bagnalls has, for many years, enjoyed a reputation for developing its people from apprentices to management. To supplement the college training provided under the apprenticeships scheme, we established our own Training Academy in order to provide additional practical skills coaching in a controlled environment.

The facility, managed by our Learning & Development Manager and a dedicated painting tutor, provides an environment where young people can build their confidence in painting and decorating and familiarise themselves with new products before applying them in a customer’s premises.

The Training Academy is also used by more experienced employees to polish-up their skills, attend safety seminars and learn about new product formulations and equipment. The facility continues to support our passion for developing our own people in-house as well as helping us to produce the highest standards of workmanship expected by our discerning customers.

Since its opening in 2004, the Training Academy has been visited by many customers and interested stakeholders who share our passion for skills development. Budding apprentices have taken part in painting and decorating workshops through school and college involvement days.

Please contact us if you are interested in seeing the Painting Academy in action.

Every employee is given equal opportunity for training and career progression.

We recruit new employees in an open and non-discriminatory manner in order to employ from the widest pool of talent so that we can share in the benefits that this approach brings including increased morale, reduced employee turnover and access to wider markets.

We encourage employees to develop to their full potential and feel valued members of the business and support them through continuous training and development opportunities as demonstrated through our Apprenticeships, Management and Reset training provision and investment in our own Training Academy.
