A Day in the Life: Trainee Manager, Henry Cutts
19 June 2025
Henry Cutts, one of our fantastic Management Trainees, is nearing the end of his three-year traineeship. We caught up with him to find out about his experience at Bagnalls and what he’s learnt so far. Read on to learn all about a day in the life of one of our Management Trainees.
What is the most beneficial thing that you have learnt during your traineeship so far?
Henry: “I learnt early on that taking my time is important. You can just rush around a customer’s premises when pricing up their project, but this will lead to inefficient and inaccurate results.
“It’s essential to take the time to understand the environment, focus on any areas that need particular attention and work out exactly how all areas will be accessed. Taking this extra care helps me to prepare the quote properly and achieve quality results.
“I’ve also learnt to ask questions and get support when I need it. Kirsty and Phil, the learning and development team at Bagnalls, have provided great additional support with measuring, pricing and gaining a wider knowledge of Bagnalls as a business.”
Why would you recommend the Bagnalls Management Trainee Scheme to others?
Henry: “The Management Trainee scheme allows you to get that extra support and gives you time to learn essential Contract Management skills.
“I can see a clear progression in my abilities as time passes. Each year, there are planned stages and levels to aim for and achieve – it’s great to see that the skills I learnt in the first year of my traineeship are now embedded in what I do every day.
“The scheme also gives you a good foundation in the industry. I am not a painter by trade, so the traineeship has given me the time to learn about different paint products and rates, while developing an understanding of the causes behind different issues that I may encounter on site.”
How have your Bagnalls colleagues supported you throughout your Management Traineeship?
Henry: “I have great colleagues and I know that, if I need help with anything, I can ask any one of them. My Manager and Regional Director are always happy to explain things to me to ensure that my knowledge develops and improves.
“As a Trainee Manager, I would advise others to just ask if you’re not sure of something – there’s always someone in Bagnalls who knows the answer and is more than happy to help!
“As I near the end of the Management Trainee programme, I am looking forward to being fully qualified as a Contracts Manager and focusing on my future.”
