Painting Expertise at British Steel

01 June 2021

Bagnalls continues to support one of its major utility customers by undertaking specialist industrial coating work to their network of pipelines across the UK. Bagnalls fully encapsulated this 60-metre long section of pipe at British Steel, Scunthorpe, prior to the steelwork being grit blasted and painted to the required specification. The encapsulation of the worksite ensures that the debris from the preparation process  is safely contained and the progress of work is not interrupted through inclement weather. Regular maintenance painting by Bagnalls, a specialist in the preparation and application of specialist performance coatings, ensures that vital assets remain in safe operation throughout their life; in total, over 260 metres of pipe were prepared and painted on during this 7 week project. The inter-connecting network of pipework forms essential infrastructure to provide gas to British Steel’s furnaces, so our team had to ensure that the works were completed to specification and on time.

Health and safety, environmental impacts, programme, site permits to work and specification are all key components of risk which are managed to ensure smooth service delivery. On this site alone, our painters and appointed scaffolders completed a full site induction so that they were fully familiar with, not only the everyday risks on site, but also the risk associated with working in close proximity to the British Steel freight rail tracks. Our exemplary record has resulted in Bagnalls being a trusted painting contractor for a wide range of Achilles UVDB (Utility Vendor Database) customers and UK Manufacturing companies across the UK.
