Bagnalls Continues Fantastic Work with Greater Anglia Rail
22 July 2025
Bagnalls has a fantastic customer relationship with Greater Anglia (GA) Rail, spanning more than two years. Our team proudly delivers a decorative painting programme for the Train Operating Company (TOC), which was originally won via competitive tender.
GA Rail operates primarily in East Anglia, as well as parts of London. The organisation is responsible for 134 stations, including the quaint station in Roydon, Essex (pictured above). Our annual programme consists of redecoration works to stations, platforms, concourses and other previously painted assets and structures.
Bagnalls dedicates two Contracts Managers to the ongoing GA Rail project. These colleagues oversee the annual decorative painting programme, working closely with the Greater Anglia Projects Team to develop the scheme and ensure strong communication throughout.
A talented team of up to 30 painters deliver the programme in line with the required safe systems of work and quality that aligns with our positive reputation. Each individual station site team is led by an experienced Bagnalls Supervisor, who remains on site throughout the hours of activity, overseeing all work in line with the scope.
Our management and site teams are all directly employed by Bagnalls. All team members hold the relevant qualifications necessary for work on a railway project, including Personal Track Safety (PTS), IPAF licences and PASMA. They have also completed various relevant training schemes, such as the Site Managers Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) and the Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS).
As a company, Bagnalls also has a rail competence management system, which is externally accredited by RISQS on an annual basis. This ensures that we always remain compliant with Network Rail and Rail Industry Standards.
Safety on site – for our team, the GA Rail team and the general public – is paramount. We deliver a large proportion of the work overnight, preventing significant disruption to passengers. Daytime works are segregated from the public with barriers and diversion signage is used to protect staff and passengers.
Painting works to the canopies and dagger boards are carried out under possession or line blocks. Our Contract Managers have experience in booking possessions, allowing us to achieve the delivery programme in a timely fashion.
GA Rail specifies Dulux products for this programme, including Weathershield undercoats and gloss coatings, Weathershield masonry and Metalshield. The Bagnalls team is committed to carrying out work sustainably wherever possible. In line with this, we ensure that all empty containers are returned to depots and recycled, using manufacturer return schemes.
Given our long-standing business relationship, Bagnalls has also worked with GA Rail staff and other supportive contractors on a community project at Dogs on The Street (DOTS). We recently undertook the renovation of DOTS’ kennels in Essex, completely free of charge, as part of our Community Paintbrush initiative.
