Bagnalls Completes External Decorating Project at Watling JCB Peterborough Branch
19 December 2025
The Bagnalls team recently had the pleasure of completing an external decorating project at the Watling JCB Peterborough branch. JCB is a long-standing customer of ours, so it was wonderful to be able to carry out this work for the company.
We covered a comprehensive scope of work, including the meticulous recoating of the main building’s exterior elements, such as the cladding, box guttering, downpipes, fire escape staircase and entrance shelter. All of these components were painted in JCB’s signature colour palette, maintaining brand consistency and visual impact.
Health and safety are integral to Bagnalls’ working practices, so ensuring effective and safe systems of work became central to the project. In order to reach the building’s upper elevations, our team used specialist access equipment, which they have received full training on.
This equipment included a 34-foot electric narrow boom, alongside a Skyjack SJ6832 RT – both of which were procured from a trusted local supplier.
Before we began our work, JCB carried out a jet wash on the lower section of the building to clear surface dirt and allow for a cleaner working environment. We further enhanced preparation by performing additional cleaning of all targeted surfaces using the access equipment.
This process ensured that every area in need of a refresh was thoroughly free of debris and contaminants. It also allowed for optimal paint adhesion.
In terms of coatings, the Bagnalls team made sure to follow a Johnstone’s specification, applying Steel and Cladding paint to the main structure. Johnstone’s Smooth Metal paint was applied to the fire escape and associated railings, chosen for its durability and superior finish quality.
All finishing touches on windows and surrounds were achieved using Zinsser Allcoat satin finish. This allowed us to balance aesthetic appeal with robust weather resistance. Our operatives used traditional brush and roller techniques throughout the project to ensure precise control and an impeccable finish.
This whole project was completed within the stipulated two-week timeframe, which was carefully planned to minimise any disruption to JCB’s trade operations.
JCB was extremely satisfied with our work, commending the professionalism of our site team, who managed the work with such discretion that their presence was barely noticed. Our operatives also always maintained politeness and courtesy, which was greatly appreciated by the JCB team.
In turn, the Bagnalls team acknowledged and appreciated the friendly and cooperative attitude of the staff at the Watling JCB Peterborough branch, which contributed positively to the overall completion of the project.
