Bagnalls Delivers Refresh for Newton Abbott Community Hospital

The Bagnalls team was appointed by Rydon Maintenance Ltd to deliver an internal painting project for the brilliant Newton Abbott Community Hospital in Devon. We were asked to give the atriums within the Urgent Care Treatment Centre and Physiotherapy Ward a refresh.
Working with our long-term supply partner Crown Paints, we created an extra-durable paint specification, as requested by the client. We used Crown Clean Extreme Scrubbable Matt paint on the walls, while the doors and skirting boards were painted using Crown FastFlow water-based Satin. This paint was specifically chosen because it boasts the same durability as traditional solvent-based paint, but has a low odour, is fast drying and has the advantage of improved environmental credentials.
Newton Abbott Community Hospital operates on a 24-hour basis. Therefore, our access to project areas, including the high-level atrium, required accurate planning to ensure minimised disruption to patients, staff and visitors.
The customer advised that the lowest footfall within the hospital was usually between the hours of 9pm and 2am. Our Contracts Manager allocated a team of painters to work on the project during a night shift, operating within the preferred hours.
The main challenge we encountered during this project was high-level access. The customer could not provide load-bearing weights for the tiled floor beneath the atrium. Therefore, in order to minimise risk of damage to the floor caused by excess weight, our approved and vetted access provider sourced specialist equipment in the form of scissor lifts. These lifts had a low spreading weight, which allowed us to work safely and efficiently.
Additional ground mats were also used to protect the floor from any damage. We were able to store the access equipment in a cordoned-off area during the day, allowing the hospital to remain fully operational across all areas.
The painting element of this project took a total of six weeks to complete to the high standard that Bagnalls is known for. The customer said that they are extremely happy with the overall result.
