Green Updates from Our Sustainability and Compliance Manager

12 August 2026

Bagnalls’ Sustainability and Compliance Manager, Ben Featherstone, has attended a number of key events over recent months, including:

  • Surfex in Coventry
  • Reset Connect in London
  • The Painting and Decorating Show at Birmingham NEC.

Here, he gives his important green updates, focusing on learnings taken from these events that we can use to refine our approach to sustainability, continuing to build a better future for our planet:

“In my role as Sustainability and Compliance Manager, it is crucial to stay well-informed of the latest environmental and sustainability developments, particularly concerning legislation in both the UK and the EU.

“By expanding my knowledge and connecting with forward-thinking organisations, I am better equipped to comprehend and interpret the impact of evolving regulations on Bagnalls, our supply chain and our customers.

“Despite ongoing global political debates over environmental sustainability, I am encouraged to see that many businesses in the UK remain steadfast in their commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions. This approach is not only environmentally responsible but also strategically sound for long-term business success.

“During my interactions with other organisations at events and beyond, it has become evident that Scope 3 emissions continue to be the most significant challenge across all sectors. The critical initial step involves effectively monitoring and managing the generation of these emissions.

“Bagnalls began using specialised software several years ago to calculate our Scope 3 emissions – in addition to our Scope 1 and 2 emissions, which we were already monitoring. A major focus for us has been the continual enhancement of our data accuracy achieved on Scope 3, over recent years, through close collaboration with our suppliers.

“This strategic initiative places us in a strong position to comply with the forthcoming UK Sustainability Reporting Standards, which will be introduced gradually from next year. Our robust verifiable data will ensure our reporting is transparent and thorough, allowing us to meet our objectives to reduce emissions and become a more sustainable company, while also helping us adhere to ongoing regulatory demands.”
