Invaluable Support from Dulux’s Apprenticeship Levy

31 October 2025

Bagnalls is proud to have been using Dulux paint since the 1920s. Our long and successful partnership with Dulux, and its parent company AkzoNobel, has enabled us to fulfil countless customer contracts to the exceptionally high standard that we have become known for.

Our partnership with Dulux has recently been further enhanced, with the paint manufacturer transferring some of its apprenticeship levy to us! This allows us to further invest in our apprentices and help train the next generation of painting and decorating talent.

Nick Halton, National Contract Manager at Dulux, had this to say: “The Bagnalls team has always been heavily involved in supporting our Dulux Academy, as they encourage and nurture the painters and decorators of the future.

“We are delighted to be able to support the team by transferring across some of our levy. We’re really looking forward to seeing the apprentices as they progress!”

The Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) and its Training Committee have also been striving to get the Level 3 Craft Painting and Decorating apprenticeship reinstated for several years now, so it’s wonderful to see that this year marks its long-awaited return.

Now, 19 of our qualified Level 2 apprentices, spanning across four colleges, will be able to join the Level 3 apprenticeship course for the first time since 2019! This includes some of our apprentice-trained painters who graduated from their apprenticeship in recent years, but were unable to enhance their skills to Level 3.

Now, these painters will be able to undertake a further qualification that will not only enhance their painting and decorating skills but will also cover the more decorative project aspects, which are required by our industry and loyal customers.

As well as the opportunity to learn various decorative effects, Level 3 apprentices will also be taught essential technical skills. This will allow them to take on the painting and decorating mantle, as today’s skilled craftspeople begin to approach retirement.

Our HR and Learning Development Advisor, Kirsty Stokes, commented: “It’s fab to hear that the Level 3 apprenticeship is back! This qualification is invaluable in terms of enhancing skills and unlocking even more potential, especially when it comes to intricate or demanding projects.

“I can’t wait to see what the next intake of apprentice talent has to offer!”
