Meet Katie Sanders: Painting and Decorating Apprentice
31 January 2025
Katie is working to complete her painting and decorating apprenticeship with us. She has seen brilliant success during her apprenticeship, winning multiple awards!
What first attracted you to Bagnalls?
Katie: I was introduced to Bagnalls by the Leeds College of Building. The fact that Bagnalls allows its apprentices to work on different kinds of jobs and gain lots of experience stood out to me.
What did you do before you worked for Bagnalls?
Katie: I worked in the catering industry, as a chef in a care home.
What is your favourite part of your job?
Katie: The fact that I get to work in different areas and gain experience doing different types of jobs – meaning I’m not stuck doing the same thing all the time. The people I work with are also really nice, friendly and always willing to have a laugh! If I ever need advice, my coworkers are always happy to show me different ways to tackle a job.
What is your biggest achievement at Bagnalls?
Katie: Coming third in the SkillBuild Regional Qualifiers in 2023! I also won a prize at The Painting and Decorating Association Wallpapering Competition in the same year.
Do you have any advice for those considering a career in the painting and decorating industry?
Katie: It’s a great opportunity to develop new skills and be a part of a brilliant industry.
How do you feel about your apprenticeship?
Katie: I have learnt loads of new skills during my apprenticeship, including how to achieve a marbled finish and how to apply wallpaper.
