Meet Lewis Omatseone: Recruitment and HR Advisor

Lewis has been with Bagnalls for nearly two years. He helps us find and hire new talent, working as our Recruitment and HR Advisor.
What first attracted you to Bagnalls?
Lewis: I was interested in working for a business that has such a long and successful history. I also liked the fact that Bagnalls clearly places a high value on developing its workforce and encouraging all team members to progress into more senior roles. This commitment is evidenced by the long levels of service amongst the current workforce.
What did you do before you worked for Bagnalls?
Lewis: I was the Recruitment Team Manager for the NHS Leeds & York Partnership Foundation Trust (LYPFT).
What is your favourite part of your job?
Lewis: My passion lies in recruiting the best future talent for Bagnalls. I take pride in being part of the process that hires the next generation of Supervisors, Contracts Managers and Branch Managers. I also enjoy getting to see how the company supports new recruits to unlock their potential.
What is your biggest achievement at Bagnalls?
Lewis: I am most proud of leading the development of the recruitment process for our 2023 induction of painting and decorating apprentices. We recruited twice as many apprentices in 2023, compared to 2022. I am also encouraged that 20% of our 2023 intake is female, a 60% increase from the previous year.
Do you have any advice for those considering a career in the painting and decorating industry?
Lewis: I would encourage them to explore the different career options available in the painting and decorating industry. I was surprised by the vast array of professions it takes to keep Bagnalls running smoothly and successfully.
How do you feel about your apprenticeship?
Lewis: I am enjoying studying for my Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) Level 5 qualification in Human Resources. This is a 24-month, part-time course that has been funded by Bagnalls and is supported by my manager.
