Warburtons

Bagnalls recently painted the steelwork and ceiling bay of Warburtons’ production area, at their factory in the North East. The work had to be completed around a tight production schedule which meant Bagnalls could only access the area between 6am and 2pm each Saturday. It was also important, due to the season, that the works were completed before the temperature dropped significantly.

To access the roof section a fixed, fully encapsulated scaffold was constructed around the machinery to prevent debris from landing in the production area. It was requested that the scaffold tubes were in a good, nearly new condition to reduce the risk of contamination. A mobile elevated work platform was also used, operated by our IPAF trained operatives.

Warburtons chose to remove the flaking paint themselves and we completed the surface preparation by washing the walls prior to repainting. The specification, produced by paint manufacturer Tikkurila, required an Otex adhesion primer followed by coats of Pansarri Akva water based cladding paint, chosen for its low odour property, which is particularly desirable in a food production area.

Cleanliness and eliminating any risk of contamination were the primary concerns during the painting works. Every requirement of Warburtons was met which included no wooden equipment on site at all to prevent the risk of wooden splinters contaminating the production facilities and wearing their specified liveried PPE (personal protective equipment).
