Bagnalls’ Becky Slater Named as One of the Top 100 Most Influential Women in Construction!
30 October 2024
Bagnalls is proud to announce that Becky Slater, our Head of SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality), has been named within CITB’s Top 100 Most Influential Women in Construction 2024 shortlist!
Becky has been named within the Influencer category, reserved for women who have made a true impact within their organisation. She has been recognised as a Contractor Influencer – someone who works for a contractor that is leading the industry in terms of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI).
The judges identified Becky as an individual who is doing great things for EDI on a national stage and deserves recognition for her continued work and determination.
Becky said: “It’s such an honour to have been named amongst the top 100 influential women working within the field today, having worked within the construction sector for several years.
“Throughout my working life I have always believed passionately in developing the next generation, whether via the provision of training or by mentoring individuals to reach their full potential, irrespective of background, experience or gender.
“I believe that it’s fundamentally important to empower everyone within the workplace and to encourage open and honest conversations. I’m always looking to promote continual improvement by driving engagement with colleagues across all levels of the business. As a result, we have introduced new working-at-height equipment to reduce accidents in high-risk areas.
“In recent years, there has also been significant improvement in the workplace for women working within our sector. However, there is still opportunity for further progress.
“Something I am very proud of when it comes to my time at Bagnalls, is the work that I have undertaken to ensure every woman has a choice in their workwear and PPE options. This includes what we believe to be the first bespoke female painter-specific bib and brace offering.
“I firmly believe that, in order to encourage more women to enter the industry, we must actively seek ways of improving their working environments. Through this workwear project, I have been able to provide inclusive workwear for all, including those with religious commitments or specific disabilities.
“Bagnalls is always evolving and the entire team is proud to be entering our 150th year as an Equal Opportunities Employer. But we recognise that there is always more to be done to amplify the voice of underrepresented groups and ensure equality in the everyday.
“At Bagnalls, we hope to continue championing our people and empowering those interested in the sector to succeed.”
The intention of the CITB Women in Construction Awards is to raise the profile of successful women within our male-dominated industry. The awards champion female and non-binary role models, enhancing the visibility and accessibility of varied roles for those wanting to break into the sector.
This shortlist of incredible women celebrates a variety of work at a range of levels, highlighting achievements and bringing a focus to the equality we are all striving towards. The whole Bagnalls family would like to say a huge well done to Becky for all her work.
The final Top 100 Most Influential Women in Construction will be revealed at the 2024 Women in Construction Awards later in the year. Good luck to all of the brilliant women featured!
