Bagnalls Carries Out Redecoration for South & City College Birmingham

30 April 2021

Bagnalls were delighted to be awarded the external redecoration works across three sites of South & City College Birmingham. The works included three very different properties; Digbeth, a Grade 2-listed building, Handsworth, a Victorian period property and Longbridge, a relatively new build.

The work carried out at the Handsworth and Digbeth sites included painting of the high-level clock tower and turrets. Prior to the redecoration works on the old clock tower, extensive carpentry repairs were carried out to the soffits, fascias, windows and ornate timber, to properly prepare them for repainting. The restoration work has made an incredible difference to the building’s key features.

At the Longbridge site, we had to fully abrade the previously wood stained glulam beams in order to recoat them with Sikkens Cetol CTS.

We used a combination of cherry pickers, spider booms and fixed scaffolding to safely access high-level areas. As the sites were in close proximity to busy road and footpaths, a Bagnalls liaison communicated with both the local council and site staff to ensure the highest level of safety was maintained taking into consideration the public, college staff and operatives on site.
All decoration works were carried out to an Akzo Nobel specification.
