Bagnalls Maintains Cadent Gas Pipe Crossing

16 October 2023

Bagnalls is proud to have completed maintenance painting for Cadent Gas at its Sussex Road pipe crossing, which is located over Network Rail infrastructure.

Cadent Gas is the UK’s largest gas distribution network. We inspected and remediated the Sussex Road gas pipe crossing, which emerges from the ground on both sides of a Network Rail line. Our team provided maintenance painting to ensure long-term protection against the elements. The Bagnalls team carried out all work while operating safely in the vicinity of an active rail line.

We appointed specialist teams with Personal Track Safety (PTS) training during the erection and dismantling of all scaffolding at the site. All preparation and coating work was delivered by experienced Bagnalls team members who hold Safe Control of Operations (SCO) certifications and have undergone SHEA Gas training.

Our brief from Cadent Gas incorporated many elements, including surface preparation via abrasive blasting of the gas pipe and supporting structures, application of a PPG four-coat epoxy protective coatings paint system and the installation of new anti-climb access deterrent measures, to be fitted on completion of the painting works.

In order to deliver the project, we had to ensure we received permissions from local landowners and Network Rail. These permissions were necessary to allow for enabling works and provide access from adjacent land to the pipe crossing.

Our team completed all work safely and to the quality standards required to ensure Cadent Gas’ essential infrastructure remains protected in the long term. Thanks to the hard work of our team, Cadent Gas is able to continue providing 11 million homes with gas.
