Bagnalls Restores Lighting Columns Along Iconic Royal Bath Crescent

The Bagnalls Bristol branch was honoured to restore the ornate lighting columns situated along the distinguished Royal Crescent in Bath. We undertook this project for a valued customer, on behalf of Bath and North East Somerset Council (BANES).
We began this project by methodically and carefully cleaning the lamp posts, ensuring they were mechanically prepared to bring them back to a suitable substrate, ready for the intricate decoration.
Each column was then primed and given an undercoat, which was followed by a gloss finish, carried out to a Sikkens specification. Our talented painters enhanced the intricate decorative features with the application of gold leaf, a process that requires expert craft work to ensure durability and a high-quality finish.
Following this, the team carefully restored the City of Bath coat of arms on every lamp post. Each coat of arms was hand-painted, using the historic colour palette particular to Bath, preserving the heritage and authenticity of the site.
As the Royal Bath Crescent is a prominent tourist destination, we implemented additional measures to ensure the safety of those visiting the area, as well as that of our team members. Bagnalls installed barriers to restrict public access to work areas and utilised access towers to safely and efficiently reach the higher sections of the lamp posts.
Effective project management was a crucial component of this redecoration programme, in order to maintain safety standards and minimise disruption to local residents throughout the redecoration.
Remarkably, despite the extensive and intricate refurbishment carried out by the Bagnalls team, we completed this project within a four-week timeframe!
