Bagnalls Still Cemex’s Painter of Choice After 17 Years

Cemex has been the market leader for ready-mixed concrete, mortars, screeds and aggregates for over 80 years. The company operates through a network of 138 mixing plants and 22 quarries, with a workforce of over 2,200 people.
Bagnalls’ Ellesmere Port team recently completed painting works to the main external plant on four of Cemex’s North West sites.
This project is close to our North West contracts manager’s heart, having previously managed the initial project with Cemex in 2006! He had previous experience as a painter but the original project was his first as a contracts manager. The coating our team applied under his supervision 17 years earlier was still intact and simply needed a refresh. Cemex approached us directly as their first choice to complete the required painting.
The work our team carried out included jet washing, the removal of loose coatings via wire brushes and spot priming. We also applied an undercoat, intermediate coat and finishing coat using a Tikkurila two-pack polyurethane anti-corrosion paint. This will ensure the enduring quality of the finish for years to come.
We completed the work during normal working hours and all four sites remained open with machinery operating and a continual flow of heavy goods vehicles. The projects were each planned to ensure safety remained paramount, whilst allowing Cemex to continue its vital production with minimal disruption.
We implemented full construction phase plans, including traffic management plans, on-site. A specialist ‘confined space’ painting operative from our Ellesmere Port team conducted the painting in tight spaces under the conveyor belts.
We accessed higher levels via cherry pickers operated by highly-trained members of the team. We also cordoned work areas off with barriers, creating a safe pathway around our work.
Our supervisor was in constant communication with the Cemex team and their transport department, allowing us to stop and start work in line with the arrival and departure of product batches and heavy goods vehicles.
We’re thrilled to still be Cemex’s first choice when it comes to industrial coatings and very proud to have completed this project for them again.
