Kev Travers, senior supervisor, working at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital for Laing O’Rourke, started his career as an apprentice with Bagnalls some 17 years ago and is now one of the company’s leading advocates on apprenticeships. Kev has been working with Laing O’Rourke to deliver social value in the community by supporting local colleges in the Merseyside region.
Kev recently took part in a 30-minute Teams talk for the City of Liverpool College, set up by Laing O’Rourke as a monthly commitment to corporate social responsibility. He spent time talking to students about Bagnalls and answering a range of questions about the company’s apprenticeship programme and his experience of different projects on site. Steve Bethell, Regional Director added, “Kev always goes the extra mile and we really appreciate it.”
A spokesperson from the college praised Kev’s support; “Firstly, thank you to Bagnalls for engaging with our students. It was a great session – Kev has an easy way about him and very quickly established a rapport with the students, making them feel comfortable. He gave valuable insight as to what it is like to be part of the industry and in particular a painter and decorator working for a big company like Bagnalls on a major site. The students asked questions, a mark of how comfortable they were in the session. It was inspirational for the students to learn that Kev had started like them, as an apprentice, and how he has progressed through the company to his current position. He was very knowledgeable – speaking about everything from specialist paints to pay rates for apprentices etc. We have had some great feedback from the group saying how much they enjoyed the session and that they all learned something new. Thanks again to Kevin.”
