Bagnalls Refreshes Saxon Weald-Owned Apartments at Highdown Court
16 September 2025
After a competitive tender process, Bagnalls was proud to receive an internal maintenance contract to redecorate the communal areas of Highdown Court apartment complex. Built fairly recently, in 2010, the apartment block spans three floors and accommodates 54 apartments.
Highdown Court was designed specifically for those over 60 years of age who may require extra support day-to-day. The building features spacious corridors, allowing for ease of movement, enhanced wayfinding and wheelchair accessibility.
The Bagnalls team carefully considered our delivery approach before starting work. We wanted to ensure that any confusion or disruption was kept to a minimum, in order to protect the residents. Working with a local management team, we were able to arrange suitable dates and working hours to work on or around residents’ personal apartment doors.
Our dedicated Site Supervisor met on a morning with the Block Manager, in order to review all decoration objectives for that specific day. Discussions about access, works location and any concerns or considerations for certain residents also took place.
The team required stringent specifications for the project. We applied Dulux Pyroshield flame-retardant paint above the dado rail, while Whiterock PVC cladding was installed below. Clear signage and segregation of work was key to the ultimate success of this undertaking.
Work areas were clearly demarked by bright yellow barriers, with alternative safe routes indicated for staff and residents to follow. All work areas were also kept clean, tidy and constantly monitored, ensuring the safety of all concerned.
The programme of work was completed to the high standard that Bagnalls is known for within just eight short weeks. The Extra Care Services Manager at Highdown Court commented on the team and the work we carried out:
“The Bagnalls team worked very efficiently and kept any disruption to a minimum. We have a friendly community here and they fitted in well! My residents have varying levels of disabilities and sometimes approached the Bagnalls team members for help – they were more than happy to assist!
“Everyone from Bagnalls was happy to stop and chat to my residents and this can really make a difference to their day. The team has made the whole process very straightforward and worked around staff and residents.
“The residents are very happy with the result and Highdown Court feels like a much cleaner and brighter place to be!”
