Bagnalls Completes Redecoration Project for Chocolate Works Care Village

Our York team recently had the pleasure of redecorating the Grade II listed heritage site that currently houses the Chocolate Works Care Village. Once the headquarters of well-known chocolate and confectionary brand, Terry’s of York, this lovely building now offers residential, nursing and dementia care in a luxurious setting.
Bagnalls was commissioned to undertake a project comprising both internal and external redecoration works. Two of our talented painters completed the project over a period of five weeks – the care village remained fully operational throughout and our operatives ensured all working areas were kept clean, tidy and safe at all times.
The customer specified Johnstone’s products be used for all internal redecoration. All surfaces were fully prepped and primed, before paint was applied using brushes and rollers. We worked closely with our extensive supply chain to ensure the colours used throughout the building were an exact match for the original historic colour palette.
Our team used Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) to access the windows during the external redecoration of the care village. This work was carried out in increments on warmer days to ensure the open windows did not cause any inconvenience or discomfort to the residents.
Pre-paint repairs and preparation were carried out prior to the application of Dulux Wood stain and Dulux Weathershield products – wood filler was also used to create the perfect surface for paint application.
Our Contract Manager visited the site daily throughout the project to monitor the quality of workmanship. They also met with a representative of the customer every week to ensure that they were happy with the progress of the project.
All works were carefully planned to ensure the highest health and safety standards were adhered to and a bespoke construction phase plan was created. This plan included site-specific risk assessments and method statements to be implemented and regularly reviewed.
