Bagnalls Refreshes the Meadowhall Link Bridge

Having refreshed the Meadowhall Link Bridge in Sheffield a number of times over the years, the Bagnalls team was pleased to be asked to carry out this job again.

Over the course of six weeks, a team of 12 Bagnalls operatives completed the full redecoration of the Meadowhall Link Bridge. Our team worked day and night shifts to complete this project on time and to the high standard that Bagnalls is known for.

We began by cleaning the footbridge structure by hand before applying a fresh coat of paint to the bridge itself, as well as the associated steelwork and bracing.

One of the main challenges of this project was traffic management, as the bridge travels over the busy Meadow Hall Road. Therefore, careful planning was required to ensure that all health and safety standards were met, protecting both our team and members of the public.

Effective planning also meant that the number of site deliveries was kept to a minimum for the duration of the contract. Once the deliveries had arrived, we worked to maximise the onsite storage, ensuring quick and efficient use of time and space.

Our team utilised Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) to gain access to the bridge. A 45-foot cherry picker was used for works over land, while an 85-foot cherry picker was used to access areas over the watercourse. All of our operatives using these access points have received rigorous training in working at height.

As we were working over the River Don watercourse, we applied for an Environment Agency permit. This was approved before we began work and heavy-duty floor protection was placed over the utility.

We are thrilled with the final look of the Meadowhall Link Bridge and hope to carry out this job again in the future when the bridge needs its next refresh.
