One of our specialist industrial painting teams is currently recoating the pipe crossing which spans the River Ribble, in Preston. The contract had to be carefully planned in advance in order to minimise disruption to local residents and businesses, manage traffic in the area, work safely over a tidal river and ensure the welfare of the local wildlife. The 96-metre long crossing has been divided into five sections to accommodate the weight of the scaffold and equipment being used and the load-bearing constraints of the bridge. Each time a section of scaffold is erected, moved or dismantled, a rescue boat has to be deployed in the river for safety. The outer sections are both complete, with the encapsulated sections currently being grit blasted prior to painting; the final centre section will then be completed so that the project can be finished in the required 18-week programme.
