Bagnalls were chosen as the External Category Winner at Johnstone’s Painter of the Year Awards ceremony held in May 2018. The project that was chosen as category winner was The Cube in Folkstone. Paul Curry, Regional Director collected the award and said “This award will be celebrated at our East London branch. Being able to work to the intricate design of an artist such as Sinta Tantra is no mean feat. However, our skilled painters delivered the project to a really high standard.”
This unique project was commissioned by the Creative Foundation as one of twenty artworks for the Folkestone Triennial 2017. Artist, Sinta Tantra was commissioned with creating a geometric design for this iconic building. Her design is titled ‘1947’ and was inspired by a vintage poster from that year, which promoted rail travel to Folkestone as a holiday and tourism destination during the post war years. The design utilises colours such as candy pink, racing green and Wedgewood blue in a series of circles with flowing and broken lines inspired by artist Sonia Delaunay.
The precise cutting in of colours against one another was carried out by the skilled hands of Bagnalls’ Site Management & Painting Tradesmen. The end result speaks for itself, with a building that stands as a proud, artistic beacon at the top of Tontine Street. The customer was extremely happy with the finished commission which was completed on budget ahead of schedule.
A testimonial from the Creative Foundation, Folkestone Triennial 2017 stated, “From the outset, Bagnalls proved to be reliable, helpful and communicative. Their prices were competitive and their staff were always professional, friendly, patient and were all good listeners. The work was completed to a high standard, ahead of schedule and on budget. One of, if not the best contractors we have worked with in ten years.”
